| dc.description.abstract | A novel series of 2-methyl benzimidazole and 2,6-dimethyl benzimidazole (3a-3h, 4a-4h and 5a-5b) were synthesized. These compounds were characterized by Infra red spectroscopy, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance Mass spectral data and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity. Most of the compounds showed antimicrobial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity. Compound 3a, 4a, 5a showed good antibacterial and 4f, 4g showed good antifungal activity. Compound 4a showed highest analgesic while 3c showed highest anti-inflammatory activity. So, can be concluded that benzimidazole derivatives impact on chemists and biochemists for further search of analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents containing Mannich bases. © 2016 Scientific Publishers.
