This paper presents a THz metasurface absorber with tunability achieved by application of suitable biasing across periodic patches made of vanadium dioxide (VO2). The concept of coding metasurface is implemented in this study where two unit cells of VO2 with different absorption responses are used simultaneously to realize the precise tuning operation at the THz frequency domain. The simulation of the structure exhibits tunable absorptivity of more than 95% over the range 1.8 THz to 1.9 THz. This concept can be used for dynamic, highly stable and very precise absorption application in THz domain. © 2021 IEEE.
