Thermodynamic investigations of lead telluride
Abstract
Thermodynamic properties of semiconducting intermetallic compound PbTe have been determined using a differential thermal analysis calorimeter, a liquid metal solution calorimeter and a molten salt galvanic cell. The heat of formation of PbTe is found to be -68.36±0.63 kJ/mol, the free energy of formation to be -67.51±0.21 kJ/mol and the heat of fusion to be 41.4±1.3 kJ/mol. The free energy of formation at the melting point has also been estimated by employing the phase diagram analyses due to Wagner and Jordan. © 1977.
