| dc.description.abstract | The theory of bending of thick rock slabs is recast for rock (a bimodular material), using Reissner's principle; and the governing equations are presented in compatible forms. The effect of the ratios Ec/Et and vc/vt (E being the Young's modulus, v the Poisson's ratio; and the subscripts c and t denoting compressive and tensile loading, respectively) on the distribution of stresses, maximum deflection and the maximum bending moment intensity, is examined over a wide range of values. © 1986 Elsevier Science Publishers B.V., Amsterdam. | |
