A theoretical model of crack tip opening displacement is presented which is based on a concept of rigid body rotation near the crack tip. The proposed relation is used to obtain the crack tip opening displacement in three point bend specimens of low strength high toughness materials. The rotation factor in a bend specimen is calculated by assuming fictitious Dugdale plastic zone at the stage of critical stress intensity factor. The results are compared with the values taken from the analyses of other investigators available in the literature. © 1991.
