This chapter aims at reporting various developments in synthesis, characterization, properties, structure, crystallization, rheology, processing and uses of polyamide nanocomposites. Various types of nanofillers ranging from zero dimension to threedimensions, e.g. spherical particles, nanotube/nanowire, platelets like layered silicates and mesoporous zeolites, were incorporated to reinforce the polyamide matrix in diverse ways for various applications. Different routes to prepare/synthesize polyamide nanocomposites were discussed, along with the characterization of nanofiller in the matrix. The effect of nanofillers on the structure, properties and processing behavior of polyamide was accounted elaborately. Works on intercalated or exfoliated structure have been presented in case of layered silicate nanofillers. Emphasis has been given on the mechanical properties, Young's modulus, tensile strength, toughness, elongation at break, yield strength, of polyamide nanocomposites with a variety of nanofillers, concentration, surface treatment and orientation in the matrix. Other enhanced properties like thermal stability, flame retardancy, wear, ablation, erosion, gas barrier of polyamide in presence of nanofillers are also reviewed. The unique crystallization behavior of polyamide in presence of nanofillers is discussed vividly. Finally, the processing performance and usefulness of polyamide nanocomposites is critically assessed. © 2008 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
