Indian Scenario of Vacuum Electron Devices Research and Development
Abstract
The academia such as Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Banaras Hindu University; IIT-Roorkee; and Devi Ahalya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Indore; national laboratories such as Central Electronics Engineering Institute under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Pilani and Microwave Tube Research and Development Centre, Bangalore under the Ministry of Defence, and industries such as Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore under the Ministry of Defence are devoted to research and development in the area of vacuum electron devices (VEDs). The VEDs within the purview of this research and development include wideband electronic warfare travelling-wave tubes (TWTs), high efficiency space-qualified TWTs, magnetrons, klystrons, gyrotrons, plasma assisted VEDs, tubes accruing the advantages of solid state devices and microelectronics technology, fast-wave tubes filling the technology gap between the microwave and optical frequencies such as gyrotrons and gyro-TWTs, plasma assisted VEDs and metamaterial assisted VEDs. An attempt has been made to bring out the scenario of this research and development in India. © 2023 IEEE.
