Abstract

In the present steady, A319-4 wt%Mg2Si metal matrix composite is cast by cooling slope casting technique with an objective to develop globalized fine microstructure and compare the results with conventional gravity cast specimen of same composition. The casting was subjected to microstructural characterization by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The in-situ generated Mg2Si particles are observed to be remarkably refined and uniformly dispersed in the matrix. Mechanical properties like hardness and tensile strength of the cooling slope cast in-situ composite are enhanced because of globalization of matrix structure and refined and uniform distribution of Mg2Si particles as compare to gravity cast sample. © 2022
