Comparison of different types of three phase windings of Single Sided Linear Induction Motor (SLIM) assisted electromagnetic launcher / thruster has been presented in this paper. An Electromagnetic launcher (EML) based on SLIM exhibits severe oscillations during startup with conventional three phase distributed winding. Here, three phase Single Layer Tooth Winding (SLTW), Double Layer Tooth Winding (DLTW), Single Layer Distributed Winding (SLDW) and Double Layer Distributed Winding (DLDW) with single turn coils have been deliberated. Two-dimensional transient dynamic Finite element analysis has been done using ANSYS MAXWELL software for determining the response of the SLIMs housing these windings when constant three phase voltage of 70.7 V rms 50 Hz supply is suddenly applied at standstill condition. The translation limit of the mover was set to 1.2 m, before being detached for propulsion. After comparison it is deduced that with the highest exit velocity attained by the mover at the minimum launch time, SLIM in Case [SLTW] is the the best performer among all the cases. © 2023 IEEE.
