Abstract

Densification of performs before and after mechanical processing is governed by several factors, which interact with each other in a complex manner. The present research paper reports the investigations regarding the interfacial frictional conditions between deforming tools and powder performs; which directly affects the final density and surface condition of metal powder components. Experiments have been conducted to study the densification and other deforming parameters which are important for analyzing interfacial tribological problems at the interface of metal powder performs and die surface taking into account different simple generic shapes. The influence of various processing parameters on the relative density of the performs have been analyzed and on the basis of the results obtained laws for interfacial friction, and flow of material have been established. The correctness of the established laws has been verified in some of the industrial processes. The results so obtained are discussed critically to illustrate the interaction of various parameters involved and are present graphically. It is expected that the present work will be of great practical importance in designing equipments and toolings for mechanical processing of sintered metal powder performs.
