dc.description.abstractWith the use of the scalar field approximation, an analytical study has been made of a lightgtiide having a cardioidicalfy distorted annular core cross section. Using appropriate new coordinates (Ç, n, z) and with the n-eak guidance boundary conditions, the modal characteris-tic equation has been deduced analytically. From this equation, the modal characteristic curves haue been obtained for some low-order modes (v = 0). ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
