Abstract

A new method to design a low-order controller, based on plant reduction approach using spectral factorization, is proposed in this paper. As per state of the art the plant reduction approach, to design a low-order controller, produces unsatisfactory result. Till date the controller reduction approach is preferred over plant reduction approach, to design a low-order controller, but the technique proposed in this paper is solely based on plant reduction approach itself. Further a comparative study is finally performed for both the plant reduction and controller reduction techniques and it is concluded that the proposed technique based on plant reduction produce excellent result over the existing techniques. The most important achievement is the guaranteed stability of both the controller as well as the closed-loop systems independently. The feasibility of the newly proposed method is supplemented with the help of some suitable numerical examples.
