Modeling effect of free left turn on speed: A case study of HCBS corridor
Abstract
The presence of free left turn on a road section at intersections results into enhancement of traffic flow, speed and delay time of road networks. This paper presents a brief study sponsored by RITES was conducted to study the effect of free left turns on the HCBS corridor. For this study nine intersections were chosen on which free left turn is to be implemented along HCBS corridor. Micro simulation was done for each intersection and statistical results are obtained by using AIMSUN (Advanced Interactive Microscopic Simulator for Urban and Non Urban Networks) software, which are used in the formation of model. The suitable variables are chosen which affect the speed of motorized vehicles after providing the free left turn. The required model is obtained by using multivariate regression analysis. The model was found suitable for predicting the effect of free left turn on speed with a higher value of R 2. The model was tested on another intersection and was found favorable.
