An alternative energy source: Municipal Waste Water (MWW) has discussed in this paper for micro hydro power generation by using self excited induction generator (SEIG). Reuse of MWW can be a stable, inflation proof, economical, reliable and renewable energy source of electricity. A micro hydro power generation system has been designed, developed and practically verified to provide reliable energy to suitable load in the campus of the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), India. The hydro potential of the waste water flowing through sewage system of the university has been determined for annual flow duration and daily flow duration curves by ordering the recorded water from maximum to minimum flows. Output power of micro hydro power Generation system (MHPGS) has been estimated by using SEIG for available different head and flow rate of the sewage waste water. © 2012 IEEE.
