Abstract

Continuous observation of low frequency whistlers, hiss and high frequency scintillations of 244.16 MHz signals from FLEETSAT have been recorded at Varanasi. The whistlers occurrence rate is low and they are generally recorded during night, and the day time whistlers are rarely recorded. Whistlers and scintillations show diurnal and seasonal variations. A correlation study of two simultaneously recorded signals has been carried out, although most of the time, the two events do not appear simultaneously. Analysis of these events show that at times and under certain conditions ionospheric irregularities may duct the low frequency whistlers and cause forward scattering of high frequency signals resulting into either weak or strong scintillations. © 1994.
