A compact high-gain-printed antenna with triple band characteristics has been proposed in this paper. The design consists of microstrip-printed antenna embedded with bident-shaped metamaterial unit cells in the top side along with defected ground structure in which Rogers RT/duroid 6006 has been used as the substrate. The antenna resonates at three frequencies viz., 6.34, 9.79, and 10.30 GHz making the design versatile with a high gain of 7.9 dBi. A bandwidth of 1.08 GHz lying between the frequency range from 10.11 to 11.19 GHz has also been realized at 10.30 GHz. The proposed antenna finds diverse application in the fields of radar engineering, satellite communication, and defence tracking. It is also suitable for future 5G mobile communication services. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
