Abstract

The article proposed a stand-alone PV-connected system with energy storage (SPVSES). The SPVSES requires power management in various operating modes. The SPVSES consists of a boost converter (BC) and a bidirectional switched quasi-Z-source DC-DC converter (BSQZSDC). The boost converter extracts maximum power from the PV panel using the improved variable step size perturb and observe-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. The BSQZSDC operates as a bidirectional converter to regulate the DC link voltage using a passivity-based controller (PBC). The simulations are performed with load variation at constant irradiation and irradiation variation at constant load. Experimental results validate the performance of the proposed system in different operating conditions. © 2023 IEEE.
