Abstract

Produced gas from biomass gasification is considered one of the substituting conventional fuels. In the present work, quasi-dimensional thermodynamic model has been applied to simulate the performance and emission of spark ignition engine on 1500 rpm with producer gas and propane blends at different equivalence ratio. The results depict when PG fraction increases in propane blends: engine pressure and temperature decreases, power decreases, fuel consumption increases gradually, thermal efficiency decreases, CO marginally changes and NO decreases with respect to pure propane. The efficiency, brake power and NO emission were observed higher at the equivalence ratio of 0.9, 1.1, and 0.9, respectively. The 50% producer gas in propane fuel offers optimum performance and emission at equivalence ratio from 0.9 to 1.1. © 2020 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
