In the present paper the single mode time independent nonlinear analysis of a second harmonic gyroklystron amplifier has been carried out for its beam-wave interaction behavior study. An experimental two-cavity 35GHz gyroklystron amplifier reported in the literature had used to validate the developed analytical approach. The beam-wave interaction behavior and performance evaluation studies of the typically selected gyroklystron amplifier are carried out in detail. The numerical results obtained from the developed analytical approach show that the present gyroklystron amplifier produces a stable output power of 270kW at 35.12GHz, 17% electronic efficiency, with ∼17dB gain for a 72kV, 20A gyrating electron beam. The bandwidth of the device obtained is around 0.1%. The dependence of RF output power, on parameters like driver frequency, driver power and beam current have been studied in detail. The results obtained through present analysis are in agreement with the reported experimental results ∼5%. © 2015 IEEE.
