Abstract
The activity of lead in liquid-tellurium-saturated PbSePbTe solid solutions in the temperature range 730-830 K was determined by an electrochemical technique using LiClKCl + 5 wt.% PbCl2 as the molten salt electrolyte. From the activity data, the equilibrium vapour pressure of lead over the solid solutions has been calculated. The e.m.f. values of the cell measured at different temperatures have been exploited to obtain various partial and excess molar thermodynamic quantities, i.e. ΔGPbM, ΔGPbXS, ΔHPbM, ΔSPbM and ΔSPbX. The thermodynamic data obtained in the present investigation are consistent with the view that the PbSePbTe system consists of a single phase throughout the entire range of composition. © 1993.
