Development and testing of a green volatile corrosion inhibitor for mild steel
Abstract
Green volatile corrosion inhibitor was developed by the reaction of oleic hydrazide and cinnamic acid. Their inhibition action on mild steel was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance methods under a thin film electrolyte consisting of simulated water. The results of polarisation study showed that the reaction product of oleic hydrazide and cinnamic acid act as cathodic inhibitor at 25 ppm and predominantly act as anodic inhibitor at 100 ppm. The values obtained from impedance plots distinctly increase in presence of different concentration inhibitor which further corroborates that synthesized inhibitor is a effective inhibitors of corrosion of mild steel. From potentiodynamic polarization it showed 98 % inhibition efficiency (η%) at 100ppm. © 2013 by NACE International.
